Do You Believe These Organizing Myths?

Not everyone has the facts when they think about getting their home organized and how they are going to go about it. Sometimes the misconceptions people have about getting organized holds them back from jumping in and doing it.

Here are three organizing myths that you may find yourself thinking about when you mull over your next organizing project.

Organizing Myth # 1:  You have to spend a lot of money on supplies to get organized. You don’t have to run out and purchase a whole bunch of organizing products to get started. First, weed through what you want and what you don’t want. Parting with items that you no longer need will lighten your load and leave you with less to store which means buying less products. You can even take advantage of any free storage containers you may already have on hand such as shoe boxes, plastic fruit trays and free items from online trading groups.

Organizing Myth # 2:   You have to be perfect to be organized. No, not so! Being organized is about deciding on keeping what you love, use and need and then finding a home for those items so you have structure and systems. It’s also about letting go of the items you no longer have a use for. Once you have the items you are going to keep in a “home” such as a bin, basket or drawer, they will be easy to find and easy to put away until you need them next time. The bottom line when it comes to being organized is being able to restore order quickly because you know where everything goes.

Organizing Myth # 3 You have to organize your whole home all at once. Wrong again! It looks easy on TV and like it’s done in a snap when watching a 30 minute decluttering show, but there’s a lot more work going on behind the scenes than you see. Most likely you don’t have a crew like they do on the shows, although hopefully you can round up some help. Organizing can be tiring emotionally and physically, so it’s okay to break your project down into several hour segments and work every day or each week until you reach your goals. Even just a few minutes at a time is still progress if you do it consistently.

Break through these organizing myths so you can get your home organized today!
