Look for Time Pockets to Reach Your Goals

How to create time in your day Monika Kristofferson
One of the definitions of a pocket is: “a small patch of something.” Can you picture a pocket in your jeans or a hoodie? They aren’t very deep and they can’t hold very much, but they can hold a little bit, right? Well, I want you to think about pockets of time and what you can do with them. You might not have a lot of time, but just a little bit of time may be just enough to get something done to help you reach your goals.
To start, create a list of small tasks that you can complete when you have unexpected time on your hands. Often, the fall back activity for many of us is to engage with our cell phones when we’re in waiting mode. But playing a game on your phone isn’t going to help you reach your goals. You might find you have enough time to cross something off your to do list that frees up time to work on your goals later or helps you meet your goals now. It might be while you’re waiting in your office for a phone call, waiting for a meeting to start or while you’re waiting in your car prior to an appointment. Because I know you got to that appointment early because you’re just that good.
What are some tasks that you could add to your list now? Here are a few ideas to get you started on your list:
  • Research
  • Read-be sure to bring your book or electronic device with you
  • Make phone calls
  • Write a handwritten note or thank you card
  • Listen to voicemail messages
  • Brainstorm blog post topics
  • Respond to emails
  • Jot down ideas for social media content
  • Edit a few photos on your phone for your business Instagram account
If you want to reach your goals, it’s up to you to manage your time and manage your focus so you can do the work needed to get to the finish line. The time is there, you just have to create small pockets and fill them with tasks that you’re crossing off your list.
