We went from the year 2000 to the year 2020 in our guest bathroom and we did it on our own at a reasonable price! I wasn’t sure if we were opening a can of worms both in the bathroom and in our relationship. But things went smoothly! First, we waited for all of the kids to be out of the house so we didn’t have to worry about anyone needing to use this bathroom while under construction. And truth be told, so it didn’t get messed back up after it was shiny and new…
I was actually pretty surprised by just how yellow our bathroom looked. The vanity and trim was on the yellow side, the walls were a shade of yellow and even the tile. Speaking of tile, that was a pretty nasty (dusty) job and took more than one tool purchase to get the job done. Fortunately, I didn’t have to do that work but I did help with clean up. I don’t mind cleaning up! Big construction quality bags from Home Depot were a life saver for the jagged
Out with the old and in with the new! That big ‘ol mirror was picked up for free by someone on OfferUp and replaced with a little round cutie from Target. Since there is no natural light in this bathroom, I wanted clear lights to brighten up the space as much as possible. Oh, shiplap, did I mention we added shiplap?
I’m super happy with our decision to go with the open shelving above the toilet with the hardy shelf mounts. I’m also happy with the vanity with legs, giving the small space a more open feel. There’s still plenty of storage space with the drawers and baskets.
I’m super happy with how bright, clean and up-to-date our bathroom feels now! If we can do it, you can do it!
